Codel is a software company in Križevci that builds systems for Croatian manufacturers. Its warehouse management system started in early 2024 as a pilot transaction module for one client and grew into a full WMS with a dozen document modules and a tablet variant.

I joined the project in April 2024 as the second frontend developer and worked on it until September: 210 commits across the pilot and the WMS repository, most of the document modules and the shared components every module is built from.

Context

  • A manufacturer's warehouse runs on documents: goods come in on a receipt, move between locations on a putaway note, leave production on an issue note and leave the building on a dispatch note. Stocktaking has to reconcile all of it. The client wanted one system for all of these, usable both at a desk and on a tablet between the racks.
  • The team was small: Codel's lead developer owned the backend and the architecture, I owned most of the screens. The first client got its own build in September 2024.

What I built

  • Document modules: goods receipts with serial numbers and autocomplete item entry, issue notes and dispatch notes with items, stocktaking, and a stock overview with column layouts saved per user.
  • The putaway and relocation flow: empty a container, move one or many items between locations, and stay on the same step when the server rejects a move instead of starting over.
  • Containers, an item master with barcodes, business partners with address editing, movement history by container code and a transaction log with formatted JSON.
  • User rights: users, groups and objects in a tab view that works down to 1280 px.
  • Shared pieces every module is built from: a config-driven dynamic dialog, the data table on top of MUI X Data Grid Pro with context menu, saved pinned columns, row colouring and CSV export, and the main app bar with module tabs, history and a per-user theme.
  • Croatian, English and German translations for every label, column and option, and PDF documents generated with pdf-lib.

How it works

  • React 18 with TypeScript and Vite; TanStack Query for server state, Zustand for UI state, react-hook-form with Zod schemas for every form.
  • ProGlove wearable scanners connected through the ProGlove API, with a scanner dialog that fills the active field.
  • Per-client builds through Vite modes and a Docker image that serves the built app.
  • A tablet menu for warehouse workers next to the desktop layout, both from the same codebase.

Outcome

  • Deployed for Codel's first WMS client with a dedicated build in September 2024.
  • 210 of my commits between April and September 2024 across the pilot and the WMS repository.
  • The system is internal to the client, so there are no public screenshots.
